1 John 4

May 24, 2026

In 1 John 4, John warns believers to live with spiritual discernment by testing every voice, teaching, and influence against the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. False teaching distorts both truth and love, but the full Gospel reveals that Jesus is fully God, fully man, and the only source of salvation. John then shifts to the heart of the chapter: God’s love. God didn’t just say He loved us—He demonstrated it by sending Jesus to bear our sin and absorb the wrath we deserved so we could be fully forgiven and brought into God’s family. Because we are loved first, we are now called to love others sacrificially and authentically, becoming visible evidence of an invisible God. As believers fully receive God’s perfect love, fear and condemnation lose their grip, replaced by confidence, freedom, and assurance in Christ.
